3 European travel destinations that accept COVID recovery certificates

If you’re hoping to get away on holiday this year but are worried about any remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions, then you’re in luck.

More and more countries are now relaxing their entry requirements — which means booking a holiday is a lot less stressful than it has been throughout the last two years. In fact, you can now visit some EU countries even if you haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19. For most destinations, a COVID-19 recovery certificate is all you need.

So whether you’re keen to explore a new city or relax on an exotic beach, here are 3 great European holiday destinations that you can visit with just a recovery certificate this summer.

What is a COVID-19 recovery certificate?

Since February 2022, Europe has asked anyone travelling within the continent to provide a basic ‘green pass’ health certificate — such as the EU Digital COVID Certificate.

This shows that someone has either been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result, or has recently recovered from the virus.

But how do you go about proving you’ve recently had the virus?

That’s where a COVID-19 recovery certificate comes in!

A recovery certificate is the best way to prove that you’ve had the virus less than 6 months ago.

It’s your key to EU travel without the need for tests or a vaccine — so that you can get to your holiday destination without any issues, and kick back and relax!

3 destinations that accept COVID recovery certificates

Italy

Fly off to one of the most beautiful and romantic countries in the world — the perfect destination for your European getaway this year.

Take a gondola ride through Venice, relax on one of the country’s spectacular beaches, or climb to the top of the dome of St Peter’s Basilica. Italy is full of culture, history and, most importantly, sunshine!

And with the best pizza, pasta and gelato the world has to offer, Italy is every foodie’s dream.

If you’re travelling to Italy from the UK, you will need to be able to provide one of the following to enter the country:

  • Primary vaccination certificate (to visit Italy, this certificate is valid for 270 days from the date of the last dose for those who have had a full course of vaccines, or valid indefinitely for those who have had a full course plus a booster dose)

Portugal

Portugal is one of the oldest countries in Europe — and with everything from striking castles to medieval villages, it has plenty of history to offer.

And if it’s beautiful beaches you’re looking for, they really don’t get much more spectacular than Portugal’s Algarve region. This area is also home to the country’s top surf spot, Praia do Amado — so why not try out some surfing or bodyboarding while you’re there?

Of course, there’s also the striking capital of Lisbon. This gorgeous city is full of fascinating architecture and beautiful cobbled streets, and certainly isn’t one to miss.

If you’re travelling to Portugal from the UK and are able to provide evidence of one of the following, you will not need to complete any tests:

  • A full course of a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency, at least 14 days and no more than 270 days before you arrive

  • A full course of another vaccine, plus a booster vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency at least 14 days before you arrive

But if you’re not fully vaccinated, you will need to provide one of the below:
